A good way to see the charms of the surrounding countryside and mountains. We propose some bikes
(mountain bikes and hybrid bikes) for rent exclusively for the customers of the riad and will know how to inform you
on the possible routes.
Attention this activity requires a good experience of cycling or mountain bike because the ground can be difficult and it is necessary to know how to manage the encounters with dogs (of shepherds, farms, and stray dogs) often quite aggressive towards the cyclists!
With its lush garden and its terrace Ryad Mabrouka is a nice place for birdwatching. The region of Fez
also offers some great birdwatching spots, some just a few minutes away from the medina, and many others by the
lakes of the Middle-Atlas. A documentation on the birds of the riad and region is available in the courtyard.
Pierre-Marie, co-owner of the riad is a birdwatcher himself and will be able to give you information on differents spots if you are interested.
Here are some the birds visible at the riad : cattle egret, little egret, lesser kestrel, alpine swift, garden bulbul, white stork, Eurasian collared dove, striolated bunting, sparow, Cetti's warbler, European robin, common starling...
18 holes course on 170 acres located at the foot of the Middle Atlas at an elevation of 2000 ft, 30 to 40 mn driving from the medina in a very pleasant wooded setting. Designed by world famous architect Cabell Robinson. The whole course and clubhouse has been restored and reopened in 2017.
An 18 holes course opened in 2012 in the city centre along the Fez river only 5mn away from the medina. A great alternative for those who do not want to drive outside of Fez. A new clubhouse is under construction, we are looking forward to its opening!
Between the beginning of December and mid-April the Middle Atlas is often covered with snow,
nevertheless with the climate change the altitude where snow holds tends to rise but snow showers are frequent
throughout this period above 1000m.
The ski slopes of Mischliffen offer very little interest but in snowy periods the area offers very beautiful possibilities for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in wild open spaces or cedar tree forests but this requires some precautions because there are no markings. It is preferable to bring your own equipment.
